Bill Gates: The visionary who transformed technology Born on 28 October 1955 in Seattle, Washington, Bill Gates has left an indelible mark on the world of technology. From an early age, Gates showed an unbridled passion for computers. At the age of 13, while attending Lakeside Private School, he had access to his first computer and was fascinated. There he met Paul Allen, a classmate with whom he shared his enthusiasm for programming. This meeting was the beginning of a friendship and partnership that would change the world.

In 1975, Gates made a bold decision: he left Harvard University to found Microsoft with Allen. They had a clear dream: to make computers available to everyone. At the time, computers were big and complicated, reserved for scientists and companies. Gates and Allen wanted to change that. Working in a garage, they began developing software for the first microcomputers. Their big break came when they signed a contract with IBM in 1980 to create an operating system for their first personal computer. Thus was born MS-DOS, software that would become the basis for millions of PCs around the world. With Gates at the helm, Microsoft continued to innovate and launched Windows in 1985.
This new operating system, with its user-friendly graphical interface, revolutionised the
market and made computers easier to use for the general public. Gates became a leader
recognised for his passion for technology, his determination and his competitiveness.
Under his leadership, Microsoft expanded worldwide and dominated the software market
for decades.
In 2000, Gates decided to turn his life around. He stepped down as CEO of Microsoft to focus on philanthropy with his wife, Melinda. Together they founded the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, with the goal of improving global health, reducing poverty and expanding access to education and technology. Gates threw himself with the same passion he had shown at Microsoft into causes such as eradicating disease and improving the quality of life in disadvantaged communities.
Today, Bill Gates is remembered not only as the co-founder of Microsoft, but also as a philanthropist committed to making the world a better place. His legacy is an inspiration to those who believe in the power of technology to transform lives and in the responsibility to use success to help others. His story shows that, with vision and determination, it is possible to change the world.
